Standard 
A video codec designed for low-bitrate uses such as videoconferencing. The majority of Flash video, such as that seen on YouTube, is encoded in this format. It is now used in many streaming applications. It is relatively old (1995).
Standardisation 
H.263 was designed by the [ITU-T].
Versions 
Three versions exist; H.263, H.263V2 (or H.263+), and H.263V3 (H.263++ or H.263 2000).
Maturity 
H.263 is a mature standard.
Risk Assessment 
H.263 is now considered a legacy standard, although it is still widely used. For new applications, consider H.264, part of the MPEG-4 standard.
Take-up Elsewhere 
This standard is used in many streaming applications, from RTSP (real time streaming) to internet telephony.
